Dinesh Panicker Biography

Dinesh Panicker is a film producer and television actor. He is the producer of cult classic Mohanlal starrer – Kireedam. Though he was not successful as a producer, later he moved to small screen, where he gained popularity as a character artist. Some of his noted roles on small screen include – his debut role Panicker Vakeel of Swapnam, followed by Kochettan of Harichandanam, Devettan of Chandanamazha, Viswanathan of Mayamohini etc. Only a few know that it’s his rebirth after his failure as a film producer.

 

Dinesh was born in Thrissur to K. P. Panicker and Rajakumari. Though his parents want him to become an engineer, he was not interested in it. He graduated in Chemistry and started his career as a medical rep. As a part of his father’s transfer the family moved to Alapuzha, and their residence was near to famous Udaya Studio. It was during those days he came to cinema near. His family members got acquainted to film celebrities and his father and Prem Nazir were good friends. Dinesh’s elder brothers played role of Nazir’s childhood in the movie, Sanchari. Yet Dinesh was not interested in joining film line. Yet once he played a body double for Prem Nazir for a scene – his first film experience. Actually his back was facing camera. He also appeared in a song sequence of the movie, Dhanyam.

When the family got shifted to the capital city, Dinesh ventured into business. He was the first one to start a VCD shop which rents films which became a profitable business. In those days, copyright was given for Dubai prints of Malayalam movies and Dinesh is credited to buy the first video copy right of a Malayalam movie. These experiences gave him film dreams and he debut with ‘Kireedam’ as a film producer. Though the movie was not a high profitable business, he got satisfaction that he made a nice movie. He got both hits and miss from the industry and some of his production ventures are Dreamz, Stalin Shivdas, Pranaya Varnangal, Mayilpeelikavu, Rajaputran etc.

 

But with the early 2000s, he sank in the debt of more than two crores. It’s his family’s support that helped him to withstand. Though he went through financial crisis and sell off his cars to clear debts, he got success as an event manager. It was serial director K. K. Rajiv who brought him to small screen and he gained through small screen, whatever he lost through film making. He is married to Rohini and the couple has two sons.
