Dhiru Parikh Biography

Dhiru Parikh is an accomplished writer from Gujarati language, known as a poet, short story writer and critic. He is a recipient of both the prestigious awards of Gujarati language - Kumar Chandrak in 1971 and Ranjitram Suvarna Chandrak in 2008. He has also written a few biography works apart from being an editor. Ughad (1979), Ang Pachisi (1982) and Aagiya (1982) are his popular poetry collections. Kantakni Khushbo (1964) is his noted anthology of short stories which contains 22 stories. Samkalin Kavio (1983) and Ubhayanvaya (1986) are his noted collections of critic works. Rasyug ma Prakritinirupan – is his research essay.

 

Dhiru Parikh is born on 31 August 1933 at Viramgam, Ahmedabad. He completed his master’s degree in 1958 and Ph.D. in 1967. Since he became graduated in 1955 he started his professional career as a teacher. He has worked as a professor in Gujarati language at various educational institutions. He retired as the head of the Department of Gujarati, Gujarat University in 1993. He has also served as an editor of Kavilok and currently works with Kumar magazine. He formerly served as the president of Gujarati Sahitya Parishad for a term of one year (2013-2014).

 

As a writer his first work was published at the age of 18. Pehlu Rudan – a short story was his first published work, published in the year 1951. He later contributed in the form of poetry, biographies and critic works also. Gujarati Granthkar Shreni (1977) is a biography of Rajendra Shah. Kharakshar (1982) and Atratya Tatratya (1978) include a short introduction of many prolific Gujarati writers. Kaalma Korya Naam (1977) includes short write-ups on non-Indian prolific writers.
