Dharan Kumar Biography

Dharan Kumar is a noted music director and composer of Tamil film industry. Parijatham, featuring the hit single "Unnai Kandene" was his debut movie. He worked as assistant music director to composer Harris Jayaraj in chartbuster musical hits like Kaakha Kaakha, Chellame and Anniyan before started doing solo projects. Apart from film music, he also works as a background scorer. Samar is one such movie.

 

Dharan was born on 8 October 1983 in Chennai, Tamil Nadu. He studied at St. Johns, Don Bosco Matriculation Higher Secondary School and Anna Gem schools in Chennai. Dharan used to participate in music programs in the college and entered music industry as assistant to famous composer Harris Jayaraj. K. Bhagyaraj's daughter Saranya studied was his college mate and she recommended his name to her father for the movie, Parijatham with Prithviraj in the lead role. The romantic rain song "Unnai Kandene" was an instant hit and listed among the top 10 songs of the year 2006. Dharan's songs and background score of the movie played a major role in the film’s success.

 

His next release was the soundtrack album to the low-budget horror thriller Sivi. Its haunting background score was well appreciated along with its music. Music of Laadam (2009) was based on Hip-hop music, featuring Malaysian rappers Dr. Burn and Emcee Jezz. But the film’s failure affected his career as well. It was followed by another flop, Thambikku Indha Ooru, with Bharath in lead role. His Malayalam debut also happened through Prithviraj’s movie. The movie was Thriller in 2012 and was well received too. His non-film albums include a single "Sing One More Time" as a tribute to Michael Jackson (2009). He also composes jingles for advertisements.
