Devendro Singh Biography

Devendro Singh is an Indian sportsman who plays the game of boxing. This young boxer got a chance to represent India at the 2012 Summer Olympics. He proved himself in the 2011 World Amateur Boxing Championships held at Baku thus gaining a place in the Indian Olympic team.

 

Devendro Singh was born on 2nd March 1992 in Imphal West District of Manipur. His father’s name is Jugindro Singh and his mother’s name is Maklembi Devi. She has one sister named Sushila Devi who is a former national boxing champion. It was she who made her brother to enter this game and she gave him training in boxing. His family was very encouraging in his boxing career and his affectionate sister Sushila has a good role in shaping the talents of her brother.

 

He was trained by M Narjit Singh, the Manipur State Boxing Coach and Gurbaksh Singh Sandhu, the Indian Boxing Coach. He took part in the World Amateur Boxing Championship held from 22nd September 2011 to 10 October 2011. He competes in light flyweight division.

 

After defeating the silver medalists Nanao Singh Thokchom and Amandeep Singh in the trials, he was able to reserve a seat in the 2012 Olympics. He defeated the 2008 Beijing Olympics silver medalist Purevdorjiin Serdamba in the London Olympics and entered the quarter finals. However he lost to Paddy Barnes of Ireland on 8th August 2012.
