Devendra Goel Biography

Devendra Goel was a Bollywood filmmaker who was active in the era of 1950s and 1960s. As a film director he is best known for the movies - Aankhen (1950), Dus Lakh (1966), Albeli (1955), Vachan (1955), Door Ki Awaaz (1964), Dus Lakh (1966), Chirag Kahan Roshni Kahan (1959), Ek Phool Do Mali (1969), Dharkan (1972), Ek Mahal Ho Sapno Ka (1975), Aadmi Sadak Ka (1977) and Do Musafir (1978). Goel has also directed the Marathi film - Dost Asava Tar Asa with Ramesh Deo, Deven Varma and Padma Chavan. Dus Lakh (1966) was a silver jubilee hit. From Devendra Goel to Jyotin Goel & now Dev Goel, Goel family is into its third generation.

 

He was born on March 3, 1919 in Meerut, Uttar Pradesh. He reached Mumbai in 1948 and launched his production house, Goel Cine Corp. In 1950 he made his debut as a director with Aankhen. The movie starred Bharat Bhushan and Shekhar and the film music was composed by Madan Mohan. With the 1960s he turned a popular director of family dramas and Dus Lakh (1966) was one of his biggest hits. ‘Garibon ki suno woh tumhari sunega’ composed by Ravi was a chartbuster. The movie starred Sanjay Khan and Babita in the lead roles.

 

Ek Phool Do Mali (1969) with Sadhana, Balraj Sahni and Sanjay Khan was also a memorable film with beautiful compositions of Ravi. Songs like Parda hatalo and Tujhe suraj kahoon ya chanda are still loved by music fans. Ek Mahal Ho Sapno Ka (1975) was another memorable film, which brought together on screen, the legendary pair Dharmendra-Hema Malini. Aadmi Sadak Ka in 1977 was also a commercial hit. He was active in film field till his death in 1979.
