Dev (actor) Biography

Deepak Adhikari, popularly known as Dev is a Bengali actor and singer. 2006 film Agnishapath marked his acting debut and at present he is one of the highest paid actors of Bengali film industry. He is regarded as a superstar of the industry at present. He is now engaged to actress Subhasree Ganguly and they have planned to get married in 2015. They together have appeared in many movies like Romeo in 2011. As one of the most sought actors of the industry, he endorses many leading Indian products as well. He is the co-owner of Jalsha Movies and has become the captain of the reality show ‘Dance Bangla Dance’ on Bangla television.

 

He was born in a small village Mahisha of West Bengal on 25 December 1982. At present he resides in Kolkata. Gurupado Adhikari and Mousumi Adhikari are his parents and he has one younger sister. His schooling was done at Bandra, Mumbai at Purushottam High School. Later he took Diploma in Computer engineering from Bharatiya Vidyapeeth University in Pune. Then he started off as an observer for the movie, Tarzan the wonder car and returned back to Kolkata to do an acting course from Kishore Namit Kapoor Acting Academy.

 

He debut big screen with 2006 movie, Agni Sapath. He was paired opposite Rachana Banerjee. But his debut movie was a flop. His second released movie was I Love You, in which he played male lead. The movie was a silver jubilee hit. Yet he couldn’t get any movie offer for the next 14 months. So he returned to Mumbai and learned dance and trained under fight choreographer Aejaz Gulab. Challenge, opposite Subhashree Ganguly was his next release which was a huge hit at box office. Though media highlighted the linkup of both these leading stars, they denied it first.

 

In 2012, Challenge 2 was released which is the most expensive Bengali films ever made. The movie with a budget of 150 crore rupees was released in 270 theatres across India which later became highest grosser Bengali movie. It crossed the collection records of Dev- Subhasree Ganguly starrer Khokababu, released the same year. Paglu and Romeo are other big hits of Dev.
