Dethan Punalur Biography 
Dethan Punalur is an Indian artist from Alappuzha, Kerala with more than 4 decades of experience in the field of photography. He graduated in Fine Arts from the Raja Ravi Varma College of Fine Arts, Mavelikkara, and has worked as a photographer and artist for many firms apart from providing illustrations and cartooning for newspapers and magazines. Till now he has conducted more than 32 photo exhibitions at different places.
His real name is V. Devadethan. He hails from Alappuzha, Kerala. He currently lives in Ooty where he is busy with his professional life. His association with photography began during younger days of the box camera. He graduated in Fine Arts from the Raja Ravi Varma College of Fine Arts with the help of a scholarship, and he specialized in painting and sculpture. He also completed a Certificate course from Photo Lux institute.
He started off as an illustrator of newspapers and magazines, and also draw cartoon those days. After that he completely switched over to the world of photography. He used to click photographs for cover pages for periodicals. He also worked as an artist and photographer for some firms, and then became the member with India International Photographic Council. By that time he started exhibiting his photos in exhibitions and galleries. He also gave classes and conducted workshops for aspiring people who want to take this profession.
As of now, based on his personal experiences, he has written more than 60 articles and published them in printed media. Nature, Medical, Macro and Action photography are his personal favourites. He has been living in Ooty for the past 40 years and also regularly writes for magazines. Malayala Manorama Award, Madras Wildlife Award, Times of India Award etc are some of the awards received by him. He won Tourism department-Ooty Award four times and Tourism board Summer Festival Award - Ooty three times.
