Denzil Smith Biography 
Denzil Smith is a famous Indian stage actor and producer who also works in movies. Apart from over 40 plays he acted till now, he has also played character roles in around 30 movies. Waiting for Godot, August: Osage County, Sammy and The Caine Mutiny Court-Martial are among his noted stage appearances. Apart from international projects - Merchants of Bollywood (2007-2010) and Life of Buddha (2014), he has also acted in Indian films - Frozen (2007), Bombay Velvet, Zid, The Second Best Exotic Marigold Hotel, The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel, The Lunch box and many more. Smith had long term association with theatre troupes - Motley Productions and Prime Time Theatre.
Smith was born in 1960 in Mumbai. He was born into an Anglo-Indian family. He has two siblings. His father was a civil servant, yet had great passion to music and the arts. It was his father, a singer cum percussionist who introduced him to the world of arts as well, quite at a younger age. But Smith lost his father at the age of only 11. After graduation in English literature at Mumbai, Smith started his career as a Film Executive under Alyque Padamsee. But in 1988 he quit the job to join theatre and he was mentored by actor Nasseruddin Shah. He also joined National Centre for the Performing Arts, Mumbai where he trained in voice.
Pearl Padamsee’s Les Liaisons Dangereuse marked his stage debut as an actor. He later worked with many theatre productions like Naseeruddin Shah’s Motley Productions and later Prime Time Theatre. The title roles of - Jawaharlal Nehru in Letters to a Daughter from Prison directed by Vijaya Mehta and Jesus in Jesus Christ Superstar in Toronto are among his memorable roles. Among his film roles, he was noticed for playing the role of a Tibetan monk Lama Norbu in John Abraham starrer Paap (2003).
