Deepika Amin Biography

Deepika Amin is a television, theatre and film actress, best known for playing supporting roles. She is associated with Bollywood, and most familiar to audience through the television roles she played on small screen. Farmaan and Tashn-e-Ishq are her noted Television soaps, and Shah Rukh starrer Fan, Sonu Ke Titu Ki Sweety, Humpty Sharma Ki Dulhania, Raanjhanaa etc are some of her noted roles in Bollywood films. She has been associated with Doordarshan since 1990s, and was seen in the popular shows such as Junoon, Farmaan etc aired during mid-1990s. In fact she got her first break with Lekh Tandon's and Gul Anand's serial Farmaan through Doordarshan.

Her maiden name is Deepika Deshpande. She was born in Mumbai into a Maharastrian family of writers. Very famous Marathi poet Atmaram Ravaji Deshpande was her paternal grandfather, while her grandmother Kusumavati Deshpande too was a famous writer. Her father Ulhas Deshpande was an Air Vice Marshall in the Indian Air Force. Her mother Kshama Deshpande is an accomplished Kathak dancer. Born in Mumbai, she grew up in Delhi, as her father was associated with Indian Air Force. She later completed her graduation in Economics from Lady Shri Ram College for Women, Delhi University.

She received her first break to acting through Doordarshan serial, Farmaan where she played the lead opposite Kanwaljit. After that she became regular in television shows, playing lead and later supporting roles. Tashan-e-Ishq and 9 Malabar Hill on Zee TV, Junoon on Doordarshan, Siyasat on Epic, Shyam Benegal's serial Amravati Ki Kathayein and his 10 part historic series Samvidhaan etc are her noted roles. Her role as a princess in Siyasat was well noticed. She began her theatre journey with Barry John’s Theatre Action Group, where Shah Rukh Khan and Manoj Bajpayee were her colleagues. She is trained in classical music and also plays guitar.
