Deepender Singh Hooda Biography

Deepender Singh Hooda is a politician and former parliamentarian representing Indian national congress. He has served as an MP twice, representing Rohtak constituency in Haryana. He belongs to a political family, being a member of the third generation associated with social service and politics. He is son of Bhupinder Singh Hooda, Indian National Congress politician who served as the Chief Minister of Haryana from 2004 to 2014. His grandfather Ranbir Singh Hooda, also known as Chaudhary Ranbir Singh Hooda, was a scion of dynasty politics in Haryana and a freedom fighter. Deepender Singh Hooda is the Whip of Indian National Congress in Parliament.

Deepender Singh Hooda was born on 4 January 1978 in Haryana. Hooda was the youngest parliamentarian when he entered politics in 2005. He was only 27 years old then. He belonged to a political family with long association with Indian national congress, since the rule of British in India. He too followed the footsteps of his grandfather Ranbir Singh Hooda and father Bhupinder Singh Hooda, and entered politics at a very young age. After studies, he has worked with Infosys, Reliance Industries and Sabre Corporation in India and US for a brief period. Her elder sister Jyoti Mirdha, is a Congress MP from Nagaur, Rajasthan.

He became a parliamentarian for the first time in 2005, winning his first elections from Rohtak constituency in Haryana. His work towards rural development through education and power generation earned him Bharat Asmita Jana Pratinidhi Shreshta award in 2010, while he was serving his second term. He was re-elected to Lok Sabha for the second term in 2009. Hooda divorced his first wife Geeta Grewal in 2005, and remarried in 2010. His wife Sweta Mirdha is the granddaughter of senior congress politician and parliamentarian Nathuram Mirdha.
