Deepak Sharma Biography

Deepak Sharma is a noted producer and director of Hindi TV serials. He started his television career as an assistant director to Santram Verma and later moved to direction. The romantic show - Kaisa Yeh Pyaar hai in 2006 marked his directorial debut in television, followed by etc Kumkum, Kyunki... Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi, Kasam Se, Bhagyavidhata, Na Bole Tum Na Maine Kuch Kaha. In 2013 he made his first short film in Punjabi language – Waapasi which won many awards. He was also seen in the character role of Jatindra Nath Das in the Bollywood film - 23rd March 1931: Shaheed. He has directed around 20 TV shows.

 

He was born in New Delhi on September 22, 1975. Sharma began his career as a theatre worker in 1996 in Delhi, followed by his job role as Theatre Coordinator with the NGO - Katha. Later he worked as an assistant director to Santram Verma. With year 2006 he ventured into independent television shows as a producer and director. After the success of his TV shows - Kaisa Yeh Pyaar Hai, Kyunki... Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi, Kasam Se, Kumkum etc, he also ventured into film production. He established film production house - Vertika Films, which also produced TV shows.

 

With the Punjabi short film namely Waapasi, he entered film direction too. The short film went viral over net and was also showed at Cannes film festival. Waapasi also received ‘Best Short Film – Jury Award’ and Best Actor Award for Rohit Bhardwaj at Dada Saheb Film Festival 2013. The short film also received ‘Best Director Award’ at Noida International Film Festival 2014. Yahaaan Main Ghar Ghar Kheli, Bhagyavidhaata, Chhoona Hai Aasmaan, Kasturi, Kahe Naa Kahe, Kasamh Se, Saathii Re etc are a few more TV shows directed by him.
