Deepak Pandya Biography 
Deepak Pandya is an Indian American neuroanatomist, currently settled in US. Famous American astronaut Sunita Williams is his daughter. Deepak Pandya originally hails from Gujarat and is of Indian origin. His contribution to the understanding of cortical and subcortical brain connectivity in the macaque using tract-tracing methods is regarded as his best achievements in the field of medical science.
Deepak Pandya was born on December 6, 1932 in Jhulasan, Mehsana District, present day Gujarat in India. Pandya received his M.D. degree from Gujrat University in India in 1957. The following year he moved to US to do his internship and residency training in Medicine in Cleveland, Ohio. In 1964 he joined the Department of Anatomy at Case Western Reserve, as a postdoctoral fellow. He joined the Aphasia Research Center at the Boston Veteran’s Administration Medical Center in Boston in 1966 as an Assistant Professor. He also worked at Departments of Anatomy and Neurology at Boston University School of Medicine during the same period. Since then he is fully involved with his research activities.
In 1969 his laboratory moved to Boston City Hospital. He also worked as a lecturer in Experimental Neuropathology at Harvard Medical School during this period. He was associated with teaching and also carried out his research works in different institutions and universities, till he retired from service in 1995. His research works are mostly concentrated on to the field of connectivity of cerebral cortex. About his personal life - He is married to Slovene American Ursuline Bonnie (Zalokar) and resided at Falmouth, Massachusetts, where Sunita Williams was born. She is the youngest of the three children of the couple. The couple has one son and two daughters.
