Deborah Herold Biography

Deborah Herold is an Indian cyclist from Aberdeen, Andaman and Nicobar Islands, widely regarded as one of the great players representing India. She is the first Indian cyclist to reach position 4 in the UCI rankings of a discipline - the 500m time trial, and she reached this achievement at the age of 20. She is an ethnic Nicobari who grew up in Car Nicobar. In 2014, Herold won two gold medals at the Herald Track Asia Cup in the 500-meter time trial and the team sprint. The following year she won five medals at the Taiwan Cup Track International Classic. Now this wonder girl, often called as a sensation is preparing for 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo.

 

India’s cycling sensation Deborah Herold was born in Aberdeen, Andaman and Nicobar Islands on February 18, 1995. Her father served as an Air Force officer in Car Nicobar, and younger days of Herold were spent there. When Tsunami hit the whole world in 2004, she was at Port Blair and got stuck in a tree for one entire day. She was only 9 years old then. Her entire family got displaced due to the natural calamity. She rebuilt her life from scratch. With her hard work and dedication, she got in Sports Authority of India (SAI) center in Andaman, and emerged as one of the leading players of present generation.

 

Since 2011 she is living in Delhi, where she is concentrating more on her professional career. She has carved a niche for herself in this sport in India and also at an international level at such a young age. Some of her achievements include - 4 golds in Track Asia Cup Cycling Championship 2014 held in New Delhi, best medal haul (1 silver and 2 bronze) for an Indian cyclist in the junior category of the Hero Asian Cycling championship in New Delhi and many more.
