Debi Prasad Pal Biography 
Debi Prasad Pal is a Senior Advocate practicing in the Supreme Court of India and High Courts of India. He also earlier served as the Judge of Calcutta High Court. He has been an active politician and has served as Member of Parliament in Lok Sabha three times as Congress candidate. He is former Minister of State for Finance in P. V. Narasimha Rao’s cabinet. Dr. Pal is well known for his charity work and one of the founder members of Cancer Foundation of India. Famous Indian jurist Justice Radha Binod Pal is the father-in-law.
Debi Prasad Pal was born in 1927 in Kolkata to Sarala Bala Pal and Aswini Kumar Pal. His father was a noted scholar and educationist. His graduation was done at Presidency College and got his M.A. degree from Calcutta University. He also holds Doctor of Letters (D.Litt.) degree in English literature and Doctor of Laws (LL.D.) degree. Dr. Pal started practicing in the Calcutta High Court in 1959 followed by the High Court as a justice. But he resigned shortly to rejoin private practice.
He started his political journey as a member of the Congress party and contested the Lok Sabha election for the first time in 1989. He was elected from Calcutta North-West parliamentary constituency winning over his political and legal guru Ashoke Kumar Sen by a huge margin. Thus he became Union Minister of State for Finance in the then Prime Minister of India P. V. Narasimha Rao’s cabinet. Manmohan Singh was Finance minister then. Later he got elected to Lok Sabha in the years 1991 and 1996. Once he joined Trinamool Congress, but returned to Congress very soon.
