Deb Mukherjee Biography

Deb Mukherjee – a member of the famous Mukherjee-Samarth film family is a former actor associated with Bollywood in the 1960s and 1970s. He got noticed for the supporting roles he played onscreen. He is the son of Sashadhar Mukherjee, the owner of Filmalaya studios. He has 4 brothers and they were also associated with Bollywood - Rono Mukherjee, Joy Mukherjee, Shomu Mukherjee and Shubir Mukherjee. His brother Joy Mukherjee was a very popular romantic hero of Bollywood in the 1960s. His second brother Shomu Mukherjee was a noted filmmaker who married actress Tanuja. Thus famous actresses Kajol and Tanisha Mukherjee are his nieces. Actresses Rani Mukherjee and Sharbani Mukherjee are also his nieces, members of the same family. Many other film celebrities like Nutan, Mohnish Behl etc are also related to his family.

Deb Mukherjee was born in Kanpur. Born into Mukherjee-Samarth family, he is also related to Ganguly family. His mother was the only sister of the Ganguly brothers – Ashok Kumar, Kishore Kumar and Anoop Kumar. Deb’s son Ayan Mukherjee is now a popular film director associated with Bollywood, known for the movies – Yeh Jawani Hai Deewani and Wake Up Sid. Both these successful movies starred Ranbir Kapoor in the main lead.

Born into a filmy family, Deb Mukherjee too tried his luck in Bollywood. He made his debut as an actor in the 1960s. Tu hi Meri Zindagi in 1965 is one of his early movies. He got noticed for playing the supporting role in 1970 film - 'Aansoo Ban Gaye Phool', starring Ashok Kumar, Nirupa Roy and Pran. He portrayed the memorable role of Chandrashekhar in this movie. His role as Pratab in Mein Tulsi Tere Angan Ki was also well received. Abhinetri, Adhikar, Jo Jeeta Wohi Sikander, Dalaal, Gudgudee, King Uncle etc are a few more film roles. He was last seen in 2009 movie Kaminey.
