Darshana K. T Biography

Darshana K. T is a noted playback singer who predominantly worked with A. R. Rahman. She currently resides in Chicago and is of Tamil Nadu origin. Most recently she sang the songs - Kaara Aattakkaara and Theera Ulaa for O. K. Kanmani composed by A. R. Rahman and sang its Telugu versions as well. Earlier she has been associated with Rahman for popular tracks such as Pappu Can't Dance Saala and Nazrein Milana for Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Na, and many other movies such as Blue, Guru, Yuvvraaj, Azhagiya Thamizh Magan, Sakkarakatti and Shivaji – The Boss. She has also recorded songs for Illayaraja, Mani Sharma, Dhina, Thaman, Santhosh Narayanan and Manikanth Kadri.

 

Since her childhood days in Kuwait, she was active in singing. She performed as a singer since the age of 5. She has also done stage shows aside Ilayaraja and Mano before she moved to India. After schooling in Kuwait Darshana moved to Chennai in 2003 where she continued with her studies. She completed graduation in Journalism & Media, and also her Master’s, both from Chennai. She has worked as the assistant of actress Gauthami for a year. She also worked in ad jingles while at Chennai.

 

Since 2004 she gave backup vocals for many television soaps, and also sang for a few albums. Her first break to playback singing was through the movie, “Shivaji – The Boss”, composed by Rahman. She also performed alive with Rahman. Same year she also sang for Rahman’s Azhagiya Thamizh Magan and earned a nomination for her debut song “Maduraikki Pogathadi” at Filmfare. Her voice was also used for Rahman for the popular item number Mayya Mayya of Guru. With the songs of OK Kanmani, she established as a full flourished singer.
