Damodar Hota Biography 
Damodar Hota is an Indian classical musician based in Odisha. He performs in Hindustani classical music in Gwalior school of music as well as classical Odissi music known as Uddra Paddhatiya Sangeet. He is also a Composer and music Scholar. He is one of the prominent students of leading Hindustani vocalist Balwantrai Bhatt, a direct disciple of Pandit Omkarnath Thakur associated with Gwalior Gharana. Apart from his live concert perfomances, he is also engaged in research works related to Hindustani music, and has published a few books on music also. He started a music school, Swar Rang, where he teaches both Uddra Paddhatiya Sangeet and Hindustani music.
Some of his published books include - Kishore Chandrananda Champu Lahari, Udra Paddhattiya Mela Raga Tala Laksyana, Laksyna- o -Swar Malika Lahari ,Srimandira Sangeeta Mala, Sangeet Shashtra Bharatiya Sangeeta Ra Itihas, Udra Paddhattiya Sangeet in three volumes, Udra Paddhattiya Mela Raga Tala -o- Pravandha Laksyana, Hindustani Sangeeta Lahari etc. He authored a total of 20 books in music, and they deal with practical, theoretical, and historical aspects of both forms of music. He uses the pen name, "Swar Rang” for his writings. He is an A-grade artist in both Doordarshan and AIR.
Pandit Damodar Hota was born in 1935 in Puri, Odisha. He took formal learning in music from Pt. Balwant Rai Bhatt and Pt. Omkarnath Thakur. Later he took advanced studies from Odisha Sangeet Natak Academy. He received Pandit Mirashi Buwa Puraskar for his doctorate studies. After studies he served as a senior lecturer of Hindustani vocal music and principal at Utkal Sangeet Mahavidyalaya. Since 1963 he is into teaching profession and has trained hundreds of students till now.
