Daljit Ami Biography

Daljit Ami is a Punjabi journalist who is also known as a documentary film maker. Known as a social activist, he expresses his ideas through social action documentaries, which deals with a range of subjects like human rights, environment, mass movement, agriculture etc. He also makes documentaries on Sufi music and Punjabi scholars. Ami is known for portraying the culture of Punjab, quite different from what it is shown on big screen, with his realistic and distinct approach. His dream is to portray real Punjab. He also writes articles for journals and dailies and also serves as Assistant Editor for the Punjabi Tribune, which is published in Chandigarh.

 

In 2014, he scripted one Punjabi movie – Sarsa. As a documentary film maker, some of his works include - Born in Debt, Zulm Aur Aman, Karsewa: a different story, Anhad Baja Bajey, Baja Bajey, Not Every Time, and Seva. Many of his films have been screened at various film festivals including Punjabi International Film Festival, Toronto. Born In Debt got a commendation award at IDPA Festival 2002. His documentaries and independent films mainly deal with social issues in northern India. He also makes documentary films for universities. His film- Zulm Aur Aman has been archived in the Jalandhar's Desh Bhagat Yadgar Hall, in the aim to preserve Punjab's history and culture.

 

Ami was born in Mohali of Punjab. He holds MA in Ancient Indian History Archaeology & Culture, and a Masters in Mass Communications. Apart from his career as a journalist and editor, he has also served as the editorial consultant for Day & Night News and Global Punjab TV. In November 2014, he released the translated work of Amandeep Sandhu, Roll of Honour to Punjabi titled - Gwah De Fanah Hon To Pehlan.
