Dalip Tahil Biography

Dalip Tahil is an actor of Bollywood known for character roles and negative roles. He was a theater artist before landing to movies. His most memorable roles include Kaho na pyar hai, Darr, Ishq, Phir Bhi Dil Hai Hindustani, Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak, Ram Lakhan, Tridev, Kishen Kanhaiya, Soldier, Thanedaar, Deewana, Baazigar, King Uncle and Hum Hain Rahi Pyar Ke. Since 1980’s he has appeared in more than 100 Hindi movies. He is successful as a television actor also.

In 1984, he acted as the father of Baby Sonia in India's first 3-D film My Dear Kuttichathan, dubbed to Hindi as Chota Chetan. He is a successful television actor also, known for the roles in The Sword of Tipu Sultan and Buniyaad. He played the role of Jawaharlal Nehru in the recent release, Bhaag Mika Bhaag. He also appeared in English films The Deceivers and The Perfect Murder (1988). He has made appearances in Shyam Benegal’s Ankur, Ramesh Sippy’s Shaan and Sir Richard Attenborough's Gandhi. He has also worked in numerous Shahrukh Khan movies including Deewana, Baazigar, Darr, King Uncle, Phir Bhi Dil Hai Hindustani and Ra.One and in most these movies played a negative shade.

While he was studying at school in Sherwood College, Nainital, he made his first stage appearance at the age of 10. He was as an active participant of school and college competitions. During his senior years at school, he held the prestigious 'Kendall Cup' for the best actor two years in succession. He was declared the best actor for a record third Time in 1969 while studying at Sherwood College. He moved to Mumbai in 1968, and joined the Theatre Group Bombay where he trained for acting. During 1980’s, he joined film industry full time. As an actor, other noted movies include – Sultanat, Shakti, Arth, Jalwa, Imtihaan, Jeet, Gupt, Judwaa, Chori Chori Chupke Chupke, Mujhe kuch kehna hai, Ajnabee, Race, Tridev and Raja.
