Daisy Irani Biography

Daisy Irani is a veteran character artist of Hindi cinema. She entered film world as a child artist in the 1950s and played a child artist role in movies like Hum Panchi Ek Dal Ke, Musafir, Sahara, Bandish, Ek Hi Raasta, Naya Daur, Jagte raho, Hum Panchhi Ek Dal Ke, Jailor, Qaidi No 911 and Do Ustad in the 1950s. She has been a star child artist in the 1950s. Noted screenwriter-director Honey Irani is her younger sister who was married to Javed Akhtar, famous poet, scriptwriter and lyricist. Film director-actor Farhan Akhtar and director-host Sajid Khan are her nephews while film directors Zoya Akhtar and Farah Khan are her nieces. Daisy is married to screenwriter K.K. Shukla.

She was born into a Zoroastrian family in 1950. She along with her both sisters are related to Bollywood. Her younger sister Honey Irani is an award winning script writer while her elder sister Menaka Irani, who married stunt film-maker, Kamran Khan. She is the maternal aunt of famous film personalities – Farah Khan, Sajid Khan, Soya Akhtar and Farhan Akhtar. She stormed into tinsel town in the 1950s as a child artist, alongside her sister Honey Irani. Daisy was only 3 when she faced camera for the first time. Bandish, Ek hi raasta and Devdas are her memorable roles as a child artist. She married screenwriter K.K. Shukla in 1971 at the age of 19 and the couple had 3 children.

She quit films after her marriage. Aakhen, Katti patang, Talash, Arzoo etc are some of her works before she quit film scene. But later in the 1980s she became active with theatre. She also started an acting school. After the death of her husband in 1990s, she became active with Doordarshan serials and got noticed for the comedy sitcom – Dekh bhai dekh. She also played supporting roles in Bollywood movies like Aastha, Kya Kehna, Houseful, Shirin Farhad Ki Toh Nikal Padi and Shararat.
