D. Sathyaprakash Biography

D. Sathyaprakash is a south Indian playback singer who predominantly works in Tamil and Telugu cinema. He was a runner up on the musical talent reality TV show, Airtel Super Singer. After the super success in this show, he received numerous offers from films and has worked with all leading music composers of the industry including A. R. Rahman, G. V. Prakash Kumar, Anirudh Ravichander, Simon K. S, Vidyasagar, James Vasanthan, D. Imman, and the veteran Ilaiyaraaja. In 2015 he sang a few popular tracks like "Naane Varugiraen" of O Kadhal Kanmani and its Telugu version for Rahman, "Sel Sel" from Kaaka Muttai, "Aanalum Inda Mayakkam" of 10 Endrathukulla and "Paaruruvaaya" of Tharai Thappattai for Ilaiyaraaja.

Sathyaprakash was born in Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu. His musical career was initially supported by his grandfather who sent him to Kannaiah Naidu, who taught him the first lessons of Carnatic music. He followed his studies from Selvakumari for about two years. In 1999 while at school, his singing talent was noticed by an LIC Officer Chitra, who introduced him to Chandrasekhar Bhagavathar. Chitra was a judge of a singing contest in which Sathyaprakash was singing. Later Sathyaprakash learnt music under him. T. Satish Kumar of Rajalakshmi Fine Arts funded for his education and he completed mechanical engineering at Maharaja Engineering College.

He was doing his last year at Maharaja Engineering College, Avanashi, when he participated in Airtel Super Singer. A strong contender for the title, he missed in the finals to Sai Charan. The singer feels that wrong choice of the song might be the reason. He was judges’ favourite too. But later he got opportunity to sing for Tamil movies. Before the completion of the show itself Dhanush gave him an offer to sing for his next film – 3. Apart from film songs, he has released four Carnatic albums - Padatha Pattillai, Jananam, Pazham nee, and Soundaryam.
