D. Ramanaidu Biography

D. Ramanaidu is a multilingual Indian film producer who has been listed in Guinness Book of Records as the most prolific producer with 130 films. For his contributions to Indian cinema he has been awarded with Dadasaheb Phalke Award in the year 2009. He has also received Padma Bhushan in 2013. He has also received honorary doctorate from Sri Venkateswara University, Tirupati.

 

He has a hobby of acting in a cameo role in some of his production ventures. His Bengali film, Asukh won FIPRESCI Prize at Bombay International Film Festival in the year 1999. Same movie received National Film Award for Best Feature Film in Bengali. He has won Filmfare awards twice for best film in Telugu - Jeevana Tarangalu (1973) and Soggadu (1976). He is a politician also; a member of the Telugu Desam Party. He won from Baptala constituency in Guntur District in the 13th Lok Sabha from 1999-2004. However he lost the same seat in the next Assembly elections.

 

D. Ramanaidu was born on 6 June 1936 to Daggubati Venkateswarlu and Lakshmi Devamma in Karamchedu of Andhra Pradesh. He entered production venture with Telugu movie Anuraagam in the year 1963 which was well received by box office. After that he produced numerous movies in all south Indian languages as well as Hindi becoming one of the most successful producers of Indian cinema.

 

He has worked with almost all leading film directors of Telugu industry for the four decades since 1963 including - G. Ramineedu, Tapichanikya, KS Prakash Rao , GVR Sheshagiri Rao, K. Bapaiah, C. S. Rao, K. Kameshwara Rao, K. Murali Mohan Rao, Boyapati Srinivasa Rao and Y. Nageswara Rao. He has financed many of Hindi ventures of K. Bapaiah during late 70’s and early 80’s as well. Among all Hindi actors, Jeetendra was most lucky for him who delivered hits like Tohfa and Maqsad. He produced successful Rajesh Khanna movies like Prem Nagar and Bandish. Other Bollywood ventures include Taqdeerwala, Kuch tum kaho kuch hum kahe, Aaghaz, Hum aaapke dil mein rahte hain, Jeevan ek sangarsh, Prem qaidi, Anari, Dilwala and raghwala. In 2006, he produced single Malayalam movie – Aswaroodan.

 

He died on 18 February 2015, at the age of 78, in Hyderabad.
