Cyrus Sahukar Biography

Cyrus Sahukar is a successful video jockey and star anchor of MTV India. He appears in Bollywood films as well. Similar to successful VJ of MTV, Cyrus Broacha, he is also popular with satirical comedy shows and hosting programs and his most successful television satire program is ‘Semi Girebaal’. He joined MTV in the end of 1999 and became one of the youngest hosts/VJ of this style check music channel. He has worked on the MTV Bakra Gang and did the program, Piddhu the great-a spoof on Navjot Singh Sidhu in 2000. He has appeared in a few movies like Rang de basanti, Aisha, Delhi-6, Om jai jagdish, Love breakups Zindagi and Bombay talkies. He has also hosted many events for MTV. MTV Houseful is another successful musical show, anchored by Cyrus.

Cyrus’ father Colonel Behram Sahukar is a military officer. He is Parsi while his mother Nimeran Sahukar is a Punjabi writer. He was brought up in Delhi and studied from St. Columbia. From school days, he was active in theater. By age 14, he was a part of senior’s ‘Literacy Mission Program,’ where students perform plays and skits for the inmates of Tihar Jail. During this time, he acted in a play, ‘Haroun and the Sea of Stories’ directed by Barry John, when Cyrus became a part of his Red Noses Club. As a singer, his first stage show happened at the age of 15. One year later, he hosted a radio show called ‘Radio Rampage’ in Delhi.

At the age of 18, he auditioned in a nationwide search for MTV India called ‘MTV VJ Hunt.’ Along with him, two more personalities who won it were Mini Mathur and Asif Seth. He joined MTV in the year 1999 and in the following year, he successfully hosted a show, called ‘MTV Fully Faltoo.’ It was the first successful show to spoof on everything-from movies. It was followed by a spoof on the talk show, ‘Rendezvous with Semi Garewal’, titled ‘Semi Girebaal’ which rated more than the original one. ‘Kickass Mornings’ also needs special mention.
