Churni Ganguly Biography

Churni Ganguly, also known as Churni Gangopadhyay, Churni Banerjee and Churni Bandopadhyay is a Bengali actress who works in movies as well as television. In 2005, she won BFJA awards for best actress for the movie, Waarish in which she played a single-mother's role. Arekti Premer Golpo, Laptop, Rang Milanti, Shunyo E Buke, Jara Bristite Bhijechhilo, Chalo Let's Go, Shabdo, Bakita Byaktigato and Sakaler Rang are a few more noted works. Apart from a few Hindi television serials like Raahat, Umeed, she has also acted in many Bengali serials like Bhalobasa.com, Hridayer chorabali etc. She also acted in tele film Bandhobi directed by Kaushik Ganguly. She is married to noted Bengali film personality, Kaushik Ganguly and the couple has one son.

Churni’s real name is Churni Banerjee. She spent her childhood in Kurseong. Her parents are teachers. She did her schooling from Dow Hills boarding school. While doing graduation at Jadavpur University she associated herself with theatre activities. Aside Suman Mukhopadhyay and her future husband Kaushik Ganguly, she started a theatre troupe in 1987. After college studies, she moved to Mumbai and tried luck in Hindi film and television industry. She acted in television serials of ZEE Tv, Raahat and Choti si Asha. After staying two years in Mumbai, she returned back to her hometown.

In 2004, she debut Bengali movies with Waaris directed by Kaushik Ganguly, which still remains as the most memorable role played by Churni. But the movie was not a commercial success. Her second movie, Shunyo E Buke was also directed by Kaushik Ganguly and got released next year. Later she appeared in critically well acclaimed movies like Laptop and the most recent release Shaddo. Apart from Bengal Film Journalists' Association Awards for her debut movie, she has also received Onida Pinnacle Award for Best Actress at the national level and Kalakar awards.
