Churchill Alemao Biography

Churchill Braz Alemao was born on May 16, 1949 in Carmona of Goa State is a former M.P. of the 14th Lok Sabha of India. He last represented the Navelim constituency on All India Trinamool Congress ticket from the Legislative Assembly of Goa but lost to Avertano Furtado held in 2012 elections (Navelim is a village in Salcete, Margao). In fact all four candidates of the family lost including his brother Joaqium Alemao, Churchill Alemao's daughter Valanka and Joaquim's son Yuri also lost the 2012 elections.

Churchill Braz Alemao is married to Fatima Fernandes Alemao in 1974. Churchill Braz Alemao was a member of parliament of the 14th Lok Sabha of India. Churchill is associated with controversies and the controvercies started in 1980 when he was involved in gold smuggling case and then again when his brother Alvernaz Alemao was caught with a cargo of gold and was killed in a shootout with custom officer handling the case. It would be worth mentioning here that Alemao family is considered a powerful one as even the police refused to protection to the custom officer in that particular case. 

Churchill Braz Alemao held the post of Chief Minister of Goa in 1990 and later elected as MP representing the South Goa Lok Sabha constituency from 1996 to 1998. He was arrested on August 17, 2015 in JICA scam (Goa Japan International Co-operation agency the Rs 680-crore project).

Churchill Braz Alemao joined All India Trinamool Congress in 2014 as his daughter Valanka Alemao was denied the ticket by the Congress party in the 16th Lok Sabha election from the South Goa. Churchill resigned from the Congress party and contested the polls as an independent. Churchill joined the All India Trinamool Congress party a couple of days later and inducted in the party. He then contested the elections to the 16th Lok Sabha on a Trinamool Congress ticket but lost to Narendra Keshav Sawaikar of  the BJP.
