Chithra Lakshmanan Biography

Chithra Lakshmanan is a film producer, director, actor and former journalist from Tamil Nadu. His maiden venture as a producer was Mann Vasanai directed by Bharathiraja, which ran for 300 days. This movie also marked the debut of two successful south Indian actors - Revathi and Pandian. Later he delivered numerous Tamil hits to audience. He made his debut as an actor through Jappanil Kalyanaraman and let went on to appear in more than 50 Tamil movies. In 2011, he published one book on Tamil cinema titled - 80 Years of Tamil Cinema- Part 1, which described the evolution of Tamil cinema from 1931 to 2011. He also appears in small screen and his debut television series was Ganga Yamuna Saraswathi. Currently he appears Idhayam on Sun TV.

He was born on January 22, 1948. After completion of studies, Laksmanan started his career as a journalist. But later he got opportunity to work as an assistant in movies and he switched over his career to entertainment industry. He worked as an associate director for more than 25 films belonging to Tamil, Telugu and Hindi languages. He turned a producer with Mann Vasanai directed by Bharathiraja, which ran for 300 days marking his successful debut. Later he went on to produce many movies, directed a few and acted in over 50 movies as well.

Soora Samharam with Kamal Hassan marked his directorial debut and he has worked with almost all leading actors of the industry including Sivaji Ganesan, Kamal Hassan, Vijayakanth, Sathyaraj, Prabhu, Karthik and many more. Jallikattu, Vaazhkai and Chinnappadass are his other production ventures. Anandham, Idayam and Ganga Yamuna Saraswathi are his noted television works. He most recently appeared in the movies - Nimirndhu Nil, Ya ya and Naveena Saraswathi Sabatham.
