Chithambaram Aravindh Biography

Chithambaram Aravindh is an Indian chess grandmaster who earned the title in the year 2015 aged only 16. He is a winner of National Child Award for Exceptional Achievement for the year 2015, for his outstanding achievements in the field of chess. The award instituted in 1996 is awarded by the Department of Women & Child Development, Govt. of India to children between ages 4 to 15 with exceptional abilities. Aravindh won the Indian U19 Chess Championship at the age of 12. He finished second behind Kayden Troff in the World U14 Chess Championship in 2012. He earned his international master title in 2014 and his grandmaster title in 2015.

 

Chithambaram Aravindh was born in Madurai in 1999. His lost his father at the age of 3 and the family was financially supported by his mother who worked as a Life Insurance Corporation agent. He was introduced to the game of chess at the age of 7 by his paternal grandfather. It was his grandfather’s trick and instant solution to block young Chithambaram’s desire to leave home and play outdoor with his friends, games such as cricket. Gradually he grew interest in this game, and later went on to become a successful young player who represented India at many international chess championships and winning prizes.

 

At the age of 12, Aravindh won Indian U19 Chess Championship. It was just the beginning. He went on to compete in World U14 Chess Championship in 2012 and finished as second. He scored 9/11 for a performance rating of 2728 at the Chennai Grandmaster International Open in 2013. It was one of the major wins of his career and earned his first grandmaster norm. He earned his international master title in 2014 and his grandmaster title in 2015, and currently fully engaged in the game.
