Chinmoy Chattopadhyay Biography

Chinmoy Chattopadhyay was a well-known singer and exponent of Rabindrasangeet from Bengal, who lived in the 20th century. He lived during the period, 1930 – 26 July 1987. He was fully active in his profession since mid-1960s and many of his songs were released after his death in the late 1980s. Chinmoy Chatterjee Sarani of Rabindra Sarobar area in Kolkata, earlier known as Russel Road East 2nd Lane in British India was renamed in his honour.

 

Chinmoy Chattopadhyay was born in 1930 in Panihati in Bengal as the son of Narendranath Chattopadhyay. He completed matriculation from Asutosh College, and began his professional career in music in the 1960s. His career reached the peak in the 1970s, and he was active in the field till his death in 1987. He was only 57 when he died due to liver ailments during the peak of his career. Apart from giving solo albums, he collaborated with artists like Sumitra Sen and Sagar Sen to give popular albums like Tridhara and Sanchayan. He has also collaborated with renowned artist Pratima Bandopadhyay.

 

Bhara Thak Smritisudhai, Rare Gems Tagore, Golden Hour - Sentimental Favorites, Ebar Amay Dakle Dure, Golden Hour - Songs of Tagore, Hriday Basanta Bone, Kholo Go Ankhi - Golden Hour, Bhalo Jodi Basho Sokhi, Sanchayan - Sandhyar Meghmala, Alo Amar Alo Ogo, Aparna Madhuri etc are his released albums. Tridhara – his work in collaboration with Sumitra Sen and Sagar Sen was released in 2011. Dinsesher Ranga Mukul and Durer Bandhu are other albums released after his death.Kachhe Chhile Dure Gele, Akashe Aaj Kon Charaner and Amar Jibanpatro Uchchhaliya are among his top hit songs in Rabindrasangeet.
