Chimbu Deven Biography

Chimbu Deven, also pronounced as Chimbudevan is a film director of Tamil cinema known for making comedy movies, belonging to different genres. He made his directorial debut in 2006 with Imsai Arasan 23m Pulikesi, a comedy belonging to the genre of Historical Comedy. The movie with Vadivelu in the pivot role was a blockbuster at box office. Later he directed many comedies belonging to different genres, the most noted one being Arai En 305-il Kadavul.

Arai En 305-il Kadavul (2008), Irumbukkottai Murattu Singam (2010) and Oru Kanniyum Moonu Kalavaniyum (2014) are his other releases and they were received well by audience as well as critics, thus establishing him as the director of comedies in Tamil cinema. Till now he has attempted comedy movies belonging to cowboy, adventure and fantasy types. Vijay58 (2014) with Vijay and Hansika Motwani and Shruti Haasan is his upcoming movie. He is also planning to do the sequel of Imsai Arasan 23m Pulikesi with Vadiveli in the lead role.  

Chimbu Devan belongs to Madhurai, Tamil Nadu. Earlier he was known as Simbudevan. He completed graduation in Botany from Thiagarajar Arts & Science College. Chimbu started his career as a cartoonist with popular magazine, Ananda Vikatan and later moved to movies as an assistant to director Cheran. In 2006 he made his directorial debut, with Imsai Arasan 23m Pulikesi which turned out to be a blockbuster. His second attempt - Arai En 305-il Kadavul too was well praised by the critics. The movie starred Santhanam, Ganja Karuppu, Prakash Raj, Jyothirmayi, and Madhumitha in the pivot roles.

Chimbu Deven's third venture - 'Irumbu Kottai Murattu Singam', a cowboy tale, starring Raghavendra Lawrence, Lakshmi Rai, Padmapriya and Sandhya in lead roles was also well received by critics. His last release was Oru Kanniyum Moonu Kalavaniyum after a short break post his marriage. Praised by critics, the movie with Arulnithi, Bindu Madhavi, Ashrita Shetty and Bagavathi Perumal in lead roles, was a box office hit.
