Chetana Das Biography

Chetana Das is a film actress from Meghalaya best known for her comic roles. She is quite regular in Assamese movies and a familiar face too, and has also appeared in south Indian language films like Telugu. She has been a stage actress before she forayed to films. She won best actress award for her first stage play, Sunit Konwori, directed by Jyoti Prasad Agarwala. She is associated with cine world since 1973 and owns more than 45 years of experience in Assamese film industry. She mostly plays supporting and character roles. She received the Dr. Ambedkar award for her outstanding service in the field of Assamese culture.

Chetana Das was born on 4 November 1954 in Shillong, Meghalaya. Her father’s name is Girindra Kumar Talukdar. She graduated from Darrang College, Tezpur in Assam. She joined drama at a young age, won many prizes and she got offers from cine world since early 1970s. She was first seen in the Bangladeshi movie, Titash Ekti Nadir Naam directed by acclaimed cine maker, Ritwik Ghatak. The movie was released in 1973. Banoria Phul, Abhijaan, Shurjo Grahan, Kallol, Indira, Ajali Nabou etc are some of her early works, and she mostly played brief roles.

She appeared in the play 'Sonit Kuwari' and received the award of best actress from Tezpur Multipurpose Girls School. Das gained momentum in the industry after playing comic roles on screen. She appeared in Dil Se, directed by Maniratnam and has been a part of several award winning films belonging to different languages. "Firingoti", "Papori", "Agnisnan", "Kolahal", "Sarathi", "Sandhya Raag", "Avartan", "Kaal Sandhya", “Humlaya”, “Abuj Bedona” etc are a few such movies. Das is the first actress to act in a Hindi serial "Kamrup Ki Kahan”. Her performance in "Hiya Diya Niya" earned her Moonlight Media special Jury award.
