Chetan Joshi Biography

Chetan Joshi is an Indian musician who plays Indian flute. He follows Hindustani tradition of music. He is a recipient of numerous titles and honours such as Sur Mani, Bismillah Samman, Sangeet Kala Gaurav Award, Kala Ratna Sammaan, Sangam Sammaan, Rajakiya Sanskritik Samman etc. Joshi got opportunity to learn from renowned artists like Acharya Jagadish, Pandit Bholanath Prasanna, Pandit Ajoy Chakravorty and Pandit Raghunath Seth from different parts of the country. He also got opportunity to share stage space with Hariprasad Chaurasia and Ronu Majumdar.

 

Chetan Joshi was born in Jharia, present day Jharkhand and brought up at Noamundi and Bokaro Steel City. Late Acharya Jagadish (Bokaro) was his first guru. Apart from receiving training from renowned gurus, he also completed Sangeet Praveen in flute playing from Prayag Sangeet Samiti, Allahabad. Over the years he established himself as one of the upcoming artistes of Jharkhand. XLRI at Jamshedpur in 2006, at Rabindra Bhawan, Guwahati in 2008 and at IIM Ranchi in 2012 are some of his noted performances over the years. A fellow of Government of India, he is regular with Hindustani concerts in India, and has also performed in foreign countries like Japan.

 

Apart from solo performances, Joshi has also collaborated with other artists to perform Jugalbandis. As of now he has spent more than three decades in the musical journey. A Mumbai-based producer Dr. Anupam Ojha made a docu-drama on this musician from Jharkhand, who achieved success at a very young age. Through the documentary he highlights the achievements and struggle of the artist, who hails from Bokaro Steel City. The documentary titled Bhinna Shadaj inspired youngsters to take up music as profession.
