Chellapilla Satyam Biography

Chellapilla Satyam was a popular music composer associated with Telugu and Kannada cinema fields. He was active in the film industry during the period 1960-1980. This popular music composer was also nicknamed as "Andhra RD Burman" by Telugu music industry. He has also done a few film compositions belonging to Bengali, Bhojpuri and Hindi languages. Puche pula lona, MadhumAsa velalo, Toli valape teeyanidi, E divilo virisina parijatamo, O bangaru rangula chilaka, Kalise kalla lona, Kurisindi vana etc were his most popular Telugu songs.

 

He was born in Komarada village in Vizianagaram district of Andhra Pradesh in the year 1933. Quite interestingly he was associated with stage plays as an actor before he chose music as his career. To pursue a career in music he shifted to Chennai, where he assisted music directors like P. Adinarayana Rao and T. V. Raju. He worked as an assistant and in the orchestra troupe for the iconic and one of the most expensive Indian films - Suvarna Sundari. He worked in the industry as an assistant for more than one decade and made his career debut as an independent music director with the film - Pala Manasulu in 1967. But it took a few more years to gain appreciation as a music director.

 

NTR's Savati Koduku was his first credited movie as a music director. He worked in both Kannada and Telugu film industry. Rani Aur Jaani (1973), Alakh Niranjan (1975) and Aaj Ke Sholay (1985) are his music works in Hindi language. Some of his noted works in Kannada are – Muyyige Muyyi, Yashoda Krishna, Jaga Mecchida Maga, Simhada Mari Sainya, Chanakya, Simha Gharjane, Mullina Gulabi, Oorige Upakari, Sahasa Simha etc. He passed away in 1989.
