Chef Jolly Biography

Surjan Singh Jolly, best known as Chef Jolly is a celebrity chef from Amritsar, Punjab. With experience in the field for more than two decades, he has worked as chief chef in Taj hotel Delhi and Marriott Group of Hotels for many years, and has also presented a few cookery shows on television. Currently he is a celebrity judge of the popular cookery reality show on Star Plus, Junior Master Chef India Season 1. He started his professional career in 1993. He has worked with Taj Group of hotels, Starwood Hotels and Resorts, Choice Hotels International – some of the leading restaurant groups in the career spanning to about 25 years.

 

He was born into a Sikh family in Amritsar, Punjab. Chandigarh is his hometown. He completed his hotel management studies from the National Council of Hotel Management Catering Technology & Applied Nutrition, Jaipur. He also took MBA in Marketing. He started his professional career in 1993 at The Taj Palace, New Delhi as the Chef de Partie (internship). In the year 2000 he joined Marriott Group of Hotels. He was appointed as a Sous Chef at Goa Marriott Resort. Later he became Head Chef of Saffron at JW Marriott, Mumbai, and has also worked with London branch of same chain. He was Chef in Charge of The Club, Mumbai which arranged elite activities including Bollywood celebrity weddings.

 

He has participated in various cooking contests, and is a certified trainer at the Marriott International, who coaches and trains students. He has also redesigned cuisines of many leading restaurants and is actively involved in introducing plate presentations for the Indian cuisine. Jolly was a key member to conceptualize award winning restaurant, 'Saffron'. He also works on the research of Hyderabadi cuisine, publishes cookery related articles in periodicals.
