Cheenu Mohan Biography

Cheenu Mohan is a character artist associated with Tamil cinema since late 1980s. In a career spanning to more than 25 years, he did only a few films - from Thalapathy released in 1991 to Sketch in 2018. He has been mostly associated with theatre and has also acted in a few television serials. He was first seen in 1989 film, Varusham Padhinaaru followed by Anjali, Thalapathy and Thalaivasal before he took a break in cinema in the early 1990s. He returned after hiatus only in 2003 to do only a few character roles. A seasoned film actor, his involvement in theater stopped him from doing more films and TV shows.

 

Cheenu Mohan was born in 17 May 1956. He began his professional career in the 1980s. In the late 1980s and early 1990s, he played a few minor roles in critically acclaimed movies of Maniratnam - Anjali, Thalapathy. In the year 2001, he quit his permanent job to fully concentrate on to his theater career as an actor. In fact he struggled for long 14 years because of a stage actor, comments this veteran. As he was involved in theater, he was reluctant to work in television shows, and by this way he lost many film roles. He did only two films in the 2000s – Whistle and Jerry.

 

In the early 2000s, he got associated with both Crazy Mohan and Maadhu Balaji for their plays, and got opportunity to play lead role in many. Marmadesam Ragasiyam, Madhu+2, Madhil Mel Madhu,     Marriage Made In Saloon and Return of Crazy Thieves are his noted plays. In 2016 he returned to silver screen through his breakthrough role in Iravi, where he essayed the role of the antiques dealer John. Aandavan Kattalai (2016), Vada Chennai (2017) and Sketch (2018) were next releases.
