Charan Raj Biography

Charan Raj is a film personality of south Indian cinema, who predominantly works in Tamil movies. Apart from being a noted character artist, he is also known as a film producer, director, screenwriter and music composer. He has excelled in character roles in Bollywood films, apart from Tamil and other south Indian language films. Pratighaat directed by N. Chandra and Phool Bane Angaray starring Rajinikanth are among his noted Bollywood roles. Charan has played some amazing role aside Rajinikanth, which includes Veera, Dharma Dorai, Baasha and many more. He has also portrayed numerous memorable roles in Telugu cinema. In 2014 he created controversies by entering into Kanipakam temple with gun. Later the actor apologized for his act.

Among his Tamil films, he is best known for playing the character role of Azhagar Nambi, an efficient Police officer in Arjun starrer Gentleman (1993). He played parallel lead with Kamal Hassan in Telugu film - Indrudu Chandrudu (1989) directed by Suresh Krissna. The political drama – Kartavyam (1990) starring Vijayashanti also needs mention. In fact he has shared screen space with the popular actress Vijayashanti in several Telugu films. He has made noted appearances in Malayalam movies – Oliyambukal, Lelam and Red Indians. Raja Huli is one among his noted works in Kannada cinema. In fact he has acted in all south Indian language films.

His real name is Bommayi and he is a native of Belgaum in Karnataka. He was born on April 27, 1958. He made his entry to films in the late 1980s. Tamil movie - Mangai Oru Gangai marked his film debut. He was introduced to Kannada films through director Siddalingaiah. His negative role in the Telugu film Prathighatana brought him instant fame. Later he portrayed hundreds of character roles belonging to different languages. He lost his parents and a brother in a short span of only three months in 2009. The series of these unhappy events affected him a lot, and reduced his work also. Once again he is back into action.
