Chandraprakash Dwivedi Biography

Chandraprakash Dwivedi is a film director, television serial director and scriptwriter best known for Doordarshan series, Chanakya. He was its screenwriter, director as well as played the title role of Chanakya as well. In 2003, Chandra Prakash Dwivedi directed the critically acclaimed National award winning Bollywood movie, Pinjar for which he wrote its screenplay as well. This movie was based on the short story written by Amrita Pritam. He has also directed television series Mrityunjay which is based on the life of Karna. He won Screen Videocon Best Director award for the same series as well.

 

He was born in 1960 in Dodua, Sirohi, Rajasthan. He is a professional doctor with an MBBS degree. But he gave up his profession to take theatre as his career. Chanakya (TV series) aired in Doordarshan during 1991-1992 was a huge success. It was a time when Doordarshan was the main channel of television viewers. The series was a fictionalized account of the life and times of intelligent political theorist Chanakya.

 

He has served as programming division head at Zee TV in the 1990’s. He also started the tele-series, Ek Aur Mahabharat. But the show was stopped in the middle because of poor response from viewers. The rerun of Chanakya was also a failure. He directed Upanishad Ganga, aired on Doordarshan at 10 am every Sunday in 2012. It completed 52 episodes. Mohalla Assi, Z Plus and The Legend Of Kunal are his upcoming projects. Z Plus is a political satire and comedy, currently shot at Rajasthan. Mohalla Assi – is a Bollywood film in which actor Sunny Deol plays lead role of a priest.
