Chandrachur Singh Biography

Chandrachur Singh is a Bollywood actor who has worked as leading hero as well as supporting actor. He debut with the hit movie ‘Tere mere sapne’ in 1996 along with Arshad Warsi, Simran and Priya Gill. His notable performances as leading hero include movies – Maachis, Betaabi, Silsila Hai Pyar Ka and Aamdani Atthani Kharcha Rupaiyaa. He was paired opposite Aiswarya Rai in 2000 hit movie Josh and opposite Mahima Chaudary in 1999 hit movie – Daag: The fire. He was paired opposite Karishma Kapoor in Silsila hai pyar ka (1999) and opposite Priya Gill in Tere mere sapne. He has also worked in supporting character roles for movies like Dil kya kare, Kya kehna, Sarhad paar and Char din ki chandni. He has worked along with Sanjay Dutt for movies like Sarhad paar, Daag: The fire and Mohabbat Ho Gayi Hai Tumse.

Chandrachur Singh is a native of Aligarh, UP. He was born on 11 October 1968 in New Delhi. He belongs to a very affluent family, his mother being the daughter of the Maharaja of Bolangir in Orissa and his father was an MLA from Khair. He did his schooling at The Doon School, Dehradun and St. Stephens, New Delhi. Of the two siblings of Chandrachur Singh, Abhimanyu Singh is a successful actor who has worked for movies like Gulaal and I am.

Chandrachur Singh started his acting with Tere mere sapne and he was one among the leading actors of critically well acclaimed movie – Maachis, both released in the year 1996. He won Filmfare Best Debut Award, for Maachis. Yet his career didn’t take of smoothly. His movies as leading actor almost failed at box office and he later got second lead only in movies. Josh and Kya kehna are two such memorable roles of his career where he got attention. He was nominated for best actor in supporting role for Kya Kehna, where he was paired opposite Preity Zinta. He acted her childhood friend who loves her terribly. In the climax, she accepts Chandrachur instead of Saif Ali Khan and he well deserved a Filmfare nomination in supporting role.

Chandrachur is married to Avantika Kumari, daughter of Ajai Singh of Glenmoor Cottages and have a son.
