Chandra Nath Shastri Biography 
Chandra Nath Shastri is a well-known musician and tabla artist from Kolkata. He worked at All India Radio, performed regularly for Doordarshan and followed Benares gharana style of Hindustani classical music for his performances. He has accompanied many leading Hindustani singers for live concerts during his active years in profession. He was also an astrologer. He also played musical instruments like Khol and Mridangam, related to tabla.
Chandra Nath Shastri was born in Kolkata, West Bengal in 1948. He belonged to Dhakuria area of the metro city. His father, Dr. Mouli Nath Shastri, was a physician by profession. Yet he was a spiritual guru and musician who played tabla. Thus Shastri was raised in a musical atmosphere. He was a distant relative to Rabindranath Tagore. His grandmother Indira Devi was a niece of Rabindra Nath Tagore. His father was a vocal student of Rabindra Nath Tagore. Born in West Bengal with deep rooted Bengali culture and tradition, the family later moved to Varanasi where they got settled. He received training in the Benares gharana style while at Benaras.
Shastri completed his intermediate and graduation from Benaras. His musical talents were identified by his father at a very young age, and promoted his talent through the musical instrument, Tabla. He taught him initial lessons, followed by Pandit Anokhelal Mishra of Banaras, his son Pandit Ramji Mishra and also his elder brother, Partha Nath Shastri. At the age of 23, he won a National level championship conducted by All India Radio.
As a solo artist and accompany, he has performed in concerts. V. G. Jog, Ustad Sagiruddin Khan, Ustad Rashid Khan, Pandit Lalmani Misra, Pandit Buddhadev Das Gupta, Ramesh Mishra, Manilal Nag, Tejendra Narayan Majumdar, Debashish Bhattacharya etc are among them.
