Chandan Roy Sanyal Biography

Chandan Roy Sanyal is a Bollywood actor known for supporting roles. He is a theatre personality too known as a theatre director and stage actor. He also appears in Bengali movies. His noted Bollywood movies are Rang de basanti, Prague, FALTU, D-Day and Kaminey. His noted Bengali works are Mahanagar@Kolkata and Aparajita Tumi, for which he received critics’ appreciation. He played lead role opposite Elena Kazan in 2013 romantic Bollywood flick, Prague for which he received critics’ appreciation. Kaanchi and Mango are his upcoming movies.

 

Chandan originally hails from a Bengali family, brought up in Delhi, where he completed his education. He holds a graduation in Mathematics from Delhi University. 2006 blockbuster - Rang de Basanti was his debut movie in which he appeared in a minor role. Though it was a bit role, ‘Batukeshwar Dutt’ proved to be a pivotal character of the film. It was director Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra who discovered him. Director approached him for his next movie, Delhi 6. But he lost the role due to low height which later went to Cyrus Sahukar. Mahanagar@Kolkata, released in 2010 marked his Bengali debut. In 2009, he played a supporting role in critically acclaimed movie – Kaminey of Shahid Kapoor. He played the pivotal role of Mikhail in this movie.

 

He started his theater journey under the mentorship of Habib Tanvir. Later he became a part of noted plays like Midsummer night’s dream, Minorities and Sakharam Binder. In 2009, he staged his play – The Chugaddham Sym-phoney. At present he is active both in movies as well as theater work. He has appeared in Bollywood movies like Tell me O Khuda and Love You to Death. He played lead role opposite Sheeba Chaddha in Love You to Death (2012).
