Chandan Mitra Biography 
Chandan Mitra is an Indian journalist and politician who most recently joined All India Trinamool Congress in 2018. He has been associated with Bharatiya Janata Party earlier. He left the party following displeasure with party leaders and after feeling neglected. He was associated with the party since 2010 as a lawmaker. As a journalist, he serves as the Editor of The Pioneer. He served as MP of Rajya Sabha for Madhya Pradesh during 30 June 2010 – 29 June 2016, and has been nominated to upper house in 2003 to 2009 also.
Dr. Chandan Mitra was born on 12 December 1955 in Kolkata, West Bengal. He is married to Shobori Ganguly. He studied at La Martiniere Calcutta, where he received a gold medal in 1971. Swapan Dasgupta and Paranjoy Guha Thakurta were his batch mates then. The trio joined Stephen’s college Delhi, and during those days got acquainted with Shashi Tharoor, a student of the same college. Later they became good friends and he campaigned for Tharoor for college elections. Tharoor became President of the college's student union. Mitra continued studies in Delhi University and also completed MA and M.Phil in History before beginning his journalist career.
He also taught for a brief period, before he took his doctorate from Magdalen College, Oxford University. He was awarded PhD for the thesis "Political mobilisation and the nationalism movement in India – a study of eastern Uttar Pradesh and Bihar, 1936-1942". He started his journalist career with The Statesman in Kolkata, and joined as Assistant Editor. Later he worked with Times of India, The Sunday, Hindustan Times and finally settled with The Pioneer, where he works as an editor. He unsuccessfully contested 2014 General Elections on a BJP ticket from Hooghly constituency.
