C. T. Ravi Biography

Chikkamagaravalli Thimme Gowda Ravi or simply C. T. Ravi is an Indian politician from the state of Karnataka. He has been elected to Karnataka state legislative assembly four times. He currently serves as Member of the Karnataka Legislative Assembly for Chikkamagaluru, and represents Bharatiya Janata party. He served as the Minister for Higher Education, Government of Karnataka during July 2012 – May 2013. After unsuccessfully contesting for state assembly elections in 1999, he became an MLA for the first time in 2004 and has been representing Chikkamagaluru state constituency for four consecutive terms.

 

C. T. Ravi was born in Chikkamagarvalli, Chikkamagaluru of Mysore State on 18 July 1967. He is married to Pallavi and has two kids. He got active in politics in the late 1990s. He unsuccessfully contested 1999 Karnataka Legislative Assembly elections and lost to Sagir Ahmed of Congress by a narrow margin of 982 votes. Learning lessons from defeat, he built party base in the district, fought for Hindus and also Dattapeeetha, which earned him popularity as a local leader. In 2004 he defeated the same Congress candidate to claim his first seat in state legislature. This time he won by 25,000 Votes. Since then there was no turning back, and he retained the seat three more times till now, without any fail.

 

He is quite an influential young leader with BJP’s state politics. He was a member of Karnataka Yuva Morch, who later become the State General secretary. Known as young face of BJP in Karnataka, he is known for his oratory and speaking skills. Apart from Chikkamagaluru Taluk, he has played an important role in strengthening his party across the district.
