C. Divakaran Biography

C. Divakaran is a prominent politician from Kerala associated with Communist Party of India (CPI). He is the State Executive Member of the party who also serves as National Working Committee Member of All India Trade Union Congress. He is the former Minister for Food and Civil Supplies in the Government of Kerala. MLA from Karunagapally constituency in 2011 state assembly elections, he got elected to state assembly elections 2016 representing Nedumangad constituency. He defeated eminent congress politician Palode Ravi in the state assembly elections. He is also a writer who published a travelogue titled Nirangalude China.

He hails from state capital, Thiruvananthapuram born in the year 1942. C. K. Shivarama Panikkar and Ammukuttyamma are his parents. He is a teacher turned politician who holds a graduation and B. Ed degree. Associated with politics since his college days, he has hold several decorative positions of state politics including General Secretary of AITUC, Secretariat member of CPI, National Executive member of CPI, All India Vice-President of AITUC etc. He was an active worker of Student Federation during his college days. He served as Secretary, A.I.Y.F, Thiruvananthapuram District during his early days in politics.

He is married to Hemalatha and the couple has two children. Reading and gardening are his hobbies. He has travelled many countries which include Russia, Germany, China, Vietnam & Gulf, and later published a travelogue on China, titled - Nirangalude China. He currently resides in Manacaud, State capital with his wife. He got elected to state assembly for the first time in 2006, and he served as Minister for Food and Civil Supplies under V. S. Achuthanandan. He got elected to state assembly in 2011 and 2016 elections, representing Karunagapally and Nedumangad constituencies respectively.
