Brinda Somaya Biography 
Brinda Somaya is one of the leading architects of the country at present. Somaya is the Principal Architect & Managing Director of Somaya & Kalappa Consultants (SNK), based in Mumbai, and also a member of the Board of the LafargeHolcim Foundation. She is also an urban conservationist. She is a Bachelor of Architecture from Mumbai's prestigious architecture school, Sir J. J. School of Architecture. She did her Master of Arts from Smith College in Northampton, US. Her professional achievements too are noteworthy. . Some of her most famous works include St Thomas Cathedral, Mumbai and Holiday Inn, Bangalore. She is basically based in Mumbai and also serves as Chairperson of Board of Governors for School of Planning and Architecture, Vijayawada.
Brinda Somaya was born on 28 June 1949. After studies in Mumbai and US, she began her professional career in Mumbai in 1978. Her sister Ranjini Kalappa is also an architect, and she worked with her sister for first three years. Since 1981 she runs her independent practice. She has designed several public spaces which include parks and plazas, and also buildings for corporate, industrial and institutional campuses like TCS Campus Mumbai, Nalanda International School, Vadodara, Zensar Technologies, Pune etc.
Over the years she and her firm won numerous awards and honours for exceptional designs. She received Indian Institute of Architects – Baburao Mhatre Gold Medal for Lifetime Achievement. She received an honorary doctorate from her alma mater, Smith College in 2012. She merges architecture, conservation and social equity in different types of projects ranging from institutional campuses to rehabilitation of an earthquake-torn village, and also corporate buildings and public spaces. She is an expert of Master-planning and building design of both multiple corporate and educational campuses.
