Brijesh Patel Biography

Brijesh Patel is an Indian cricketer who was a member of national team as a right-handed batsman from 1974 until 1979. Patel played 21 test matches between 1974 to 1977 scoring 972 runs from 21 test matches at an average of 29.45 runs. He scored 1 test century apart from 5 half centuries in his international test career. He also played 10 ODIs with a total score of 243 runs with one half century. 82 is his highest ODI score. Though his international cricket career is not up to the mark, he played an outstanding job in first class cricket. He scored more than 11000 runs in first class cricket, which includes 37 hundreds – an outstanding record indeed. Patel later served as an administrator with Indian cricket and is the former Director of the National Cricket Academy.

Patel was born on November 24, 1952 to Gujarati parents. He was born in Baroda. His childhood was spent in Bangalore. His son Udit Patel currently plays first class cricket for team Karnataka. As a first class cricketer Brijesh has played domestic cricket as a team member of Karnataka, Mysore and Wellington, before he made his international test debut in the year 1974 against England at Manchester. He played 21 test matches for team India till 1977. Yet he couldn’t replicate his success as a first class cricketer. He scored one test century – 115 not out. He has been an excellent fielder on ground.

His suspect technique in pace bowling somewhat resulted in the abrupt ending of his test cricket journey. When he retired from cricket, he held two best Ranji Trophy records – maximum runs and centuries in Ranji matches. The former India cricketer has also served as NCA director and KSCA secretary.
