Brijendra Kala Biography

Brijendra Kala is a veteran actor associated with Bollywood, best known for playing character roles. He has played several realistic roles onscreen, mostly representing middle class. He is a highly acclaimed theatre artist with more than 17 years of experience in this field. His role as a shabbily dressed uncle in Rajat Kapoor’s Ankhon Dekhi (2013) and a small-time journalist in Paan Singh Tomar (2012) are his most memorable roles up-to-date. Though he portrays simple roles onscreen, they remain memorable for its realistic acting.

Brijendra Kala hails from Mathura, UP. He had great passion to theatre and acting since younger days, and for the same reason he applied at both NSD and Shri Ram Centre for Performing Arts Repertory in Delhi. But he couldn’t win a seat in both, and his passion towards acting prompted him to become a part of several amateur plays. As of now, he has more than 17 years of experience in theatre field, and his work experience in this field curved him as a very talented and realistic actor on Bollywood big screen.

He moved to Mumbai in 1992 to try his luck in Hindi films. But he ended up as an assistant screen writer during his early days in Mumbai. He worked as an assistant under screenwriter Achala Ashar, and later also wrote dialogues for several TV shows produced by Ekta Kapoor, including Kahaani Ghar Ghar Kii. By this time 10 years had already gone in wait of an opportunity before he finally bagged his first acting role in 2003 for the movie, Haasil.

Yet it was not so easy for Kala to put his foot firm in the industry. It took one more decade till a string of movies such as Ankhon Dekhi and Paan Singh Tomar gave him recognition finally. Currently he is a busy character artist associated with Hindi cinema. Jolly LLB 2, Tubelight, Running Shaadi, M.S. Dhoni: The Untold Story and Rustom are some of his recent releases.
