Bobby Singh Biography

Bobby Singh was a noted cinematographer of Bollywood. 2014 movie Queen was his last work. Commercial hit movies like Gangster (2006), Life in a Metro (2007), Jannat 2 (2012) and The Dirty Picture (2011) are his most noted works as a cinematographer. He started his career as an assistant cameraman in the late 1990’s, then moved to photography for Ghajini (2008) and became an independent cinematographer with the movie Gangster in 2006.   He had shot 90 percent of super hit movie ‘Queen’ in 2012 when he died of an asthma attack on Christmas night 2012 in Goa, at a comparatively young age of 38. Surprisingly both Queen and Gangster starred Kangna Ranaut in pivot role. Both Special 26 (2013) and Queen (2014) were released posthumously. Up-to-date ‘The Dirty Picture’ (2011) is his most appreciated work, which made Vidya Balan an overnight star.

He was born in 1974. He started his Bollywood career as an assistant cameraman for Raj N. Sippy’s Shehzaade in 1989. Later he did additional photography for A R Murugadoss's Hindi version of Ghajini in 2008. Already he has made his debut as an independent cinematographer with 2006 commercial hit – Gangster which marked the debut of actress Kangna Ranaut. Later he has been associated with many acclaimed and commercial hits like Life in a Metro, Special 26, The dirty picture, Queen, Jannat 2 etc. He has also moved his camera for Kidnap, No problem, Kucch Luv Jaisaa etc.

He was having lunch with actor Sanjay Suri in Goa when the unhappy incident occurred. He had crab for his lunch that triggered the asthma attack. He was working on two films - Vikas Behl's Queen and Neeraj Pandey's Special Chabbis when he suddenly passed away. Singh is survived by wife Radhika and a 5-year old son.
