Bijoy Ketan Mishra Biography

Bijoy Ketan Mishra is a film director belonging to Odia language films. He is mostly associated with offbeat films. He is also a journalist and editor by profession, who currently serves as Resident Editor of the Orissa edition of the Newspaper, Political and Business Daily. He is also an independent media production professional. Mishra has produced many documentary films in the last 15 years, and his works are highly appreciated. "Sachi Raut Roy" for Orissa Sahitya Akademi is one of his major documentary works. Ahalya was his debut work as a filmmaker.

 

Bijoy Ketan Mishra was born in the year 1959 in Cuttack, Orissa. He started off with documentary films and also worked as a journalist and editor over the years. Ahalya (The Words of Silence) was his debut directorial work, and it was based on a short story in Oriya of the same name written by Laxmipriya Acharya. The film was shown at Indian Panorama section in feature film category of 30th Indian Film Festival of India. He came to limelight soon after his debut work was screened in the film festival. The movie was later shown in many other festivals. Since then he has done so many films in the past 15 years or so, and stays away from main stream and commercial cinema.

 

Born in Cuttack, he graduated from Ravenshaw College, Cuttack and later did post-graduation from University of Delhi, Delhi in Psychology. Currently he is settled in Bhubaneswar with his wife and two children. He made a biographical film on social worker Pandit Gopabandhu Das, and his works like Ahalya and Sachi Raut Roy have been well appreciated. He also edits a few magazines.
