Bijendra Rai Biography

Bijendra Rai is an Indian footballer from Jorthang, Sikkim, who plays for IMG RELIANCE. He has been a team member of India U16 during his teens and has played 5 matches. Started his professional career in 2010, he has played for some of the leading clubs of the country. On 5 December 2013, he was signed up with Eagles F.C. of Kerala on loan for 2013-14 season along with 7 more players, and during his stint with this club, he received training with UK based Reading F.C. Academy for a few weeks. The other members were Jagroop Singh, Nadong Bhutia, Avinabo Bag, Biswajit Saha, Ramandeep Singh, Bisheshwor Singh and Govin Singh.

 

Bijendra Rai was born on 8 June 1992 in Jorthang, South Sikkim district, Sikkim state. He was born into a family full of footballers. His father and brothers played football. He joined Gangtok State Sports Academy in 2006, and went for training for the next three years. He got training from Hongunorden Lepcha, Suresh Mukhia, and Suren Chhetri. Soon after his training in the academy, he got the chance to play for the Sikkim U-16 team.

 

Among the clubs, his career began with Nang-Kiew-Rat in Sikkim, and he later played for Royal Wahingdoh (2010 – 2011), Pailan Arrows (2011-2012), Mohun Bagan (2012 – 2013), Mohammedan S.C. (2014-2015) and Gangtok Himalayan SC since 2016. Though he has been associated with all these clubs, he got opportunity to play for Pailan Arrows during 2011-2012 only. He played 4 matches in total for the team. He started his career as a striker and later on he shifted to the midfield. He has mostly played as a side half.
