Bharat Bhushan (yoga Guru) Biography

Bharat Bhushan is a yoga guru and instructor from Saharanpur, Uttar Pradesh. For his contribution towards yoga, body building and its promotion, government of India honoured him with Padma Shri in 1991. He is the first person to receive this prestigious honour for his contributions towards yoga. He is also associated with social work. He has shared his experience on Yoga in different TV channels in India and abroad.

 

He was born in Saharanpur, Uttar Pradesh on 30 April 1952. His contributions towards the field of yoga began at a very young age of 20 when he founded a yoga centre, Mokshayatan International Yogashram, in the year 1971. Since then he has made significant contributions towards the field to promote it among the masses, in India and abroad. Since his academic years, he also made efforts to make yoga a part of school and college curriculum. He believed that Yoga provided one of the effective techniques to keep oneself healthy since young, and also to stay away from drugs and other bad habits.

 

He initiated a campaign to preserve traditional form of yoga by using the traditional name Bharat Yoga. He also shares his experiences in this field through television since late 1970s. He was one of the leading body builders from India then, winning many competitions and cash prizes. He is also a social worker known for his social services. He started a concept of live blood bank, where recipients get blood for free if required. This concept brings communal harmony, as any person belonging to any group can donate blood for a needy. He also set up many schools, health centres & ashrams.
