Bhagyalakshmi (actress) Biography

Bhagyalakshmi is a former south Indian actress who was quite active in the entertainment industry in the 1980s. She took retirement from acting in year 2000. By then she has appeared in all the four south Indian language films. Her first movie was Deviyin Thiruvilayadal released in Tamil in 1982. She marked her Malayalam movie debut with Asthram in 1983, in which she played a character role. She has done more than 50 films in different languages, and in 2017 she returned to film scene after 17 years sabbatical. She used the screen name Bhagyasri in her early releases.

Bhagyalakshmi was born on 16 May 1972 in Chennai, Tamil Nadu. She was born into a conservative Brahmin Family to Shivaram Iyyer and Rajamani ammal. Her father is from Palakkad, Kerala settled in Tamil Nadu, while her mother hailed from Karaikudi. The family settled in Chennai, where Bhagyalakshmi grew up. She schooled from Sacred Heart Matriculation School. She took formal training in classical dance forms from Dhananjayans. Before she reached 10^th grade, she started acting in films, and for the same reason she discontinued her studies due to tight film schedules.

Deviyin Thiruvilayadal released in Tamil in 1982 marked her acting debut, and she has appeared in supporting roles in initial days. Later she did a few lead and parallel lead roles too. She did some unforgettable roles in Malayalam. Till 2000 she was busy in acting, before she got married to producer Vasudevan and took a break from acting. She returned to silver screen only after 17 years. She was settled in Gujarat for long 15 years after marriage. She has one son.
